Nu is de constructeur erin geslaagd de technologie op punt te stellen waarmee de vrachtwagenchauffeur een zicht van 360\u00b0 rondom zijn voertuig heeft. Hierdoor zal de chauffeur beter in staat zijn om zwakke weggebruikers te detecteren. En als hij het niet ziet of niet snel genoeg reageert, gaat er een alarm af en kan het remsysteem van het voertuig zelf autonoom optreden indien nodig.<\/p>\n<p>Hiermee tracht Volvo de veiligheid van voetgangers en fietsers nog te verbeteren. Want ondanks alle bestaande veiligheidssystemen blijft de zwakke weggebruiker \u2013 vooral in een stedelijke omgeving \u2013 uiterst kwetsbaar, onder meer omdat hij zich soms nog altijd buiten het gezichtsveld van een vrachtwagenchauffeur kan bevinden.<\/p>\n<p>Volgens Carl Johan Almqvist, Traffic and Product Safety Director bij Volvo Trucks, zal deze technologie over vijf \u00e0 tien jaar op de markt gebracht kunnen worden. \u2018De belangrijkste componenten werken, maar we moeten nog veel testen uitvoeren om te garanderen dat de technologie foutloos is.
